Dr. Nataša Ravbar, Head of the Karst Research Institute of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, was recently appointed Chair of the Commission for Karst Hydrogeology of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) for the term 2025–2029. In this role, she is responsible for the Europe and Africa regions, while the co-chair from the USA covers both Americas, and her colleague from China covers Asia and Australia.

The Commission is one of the key IAH platforms for the development of scientific and professional knowledge in the field of karst hydrogeology. It is one of the oldest and most active expert commissions within the IAH, which has been connecting researchers, experts and students from all over the world involved in karst hydrogeology for more than fifty years. The Commission promotes international cooperation, the development of research methods and the transfer of knowledge between science and practice, and makes a significant contribution to the development of karst hydrogeology at the global level. This appointment is also a recognition of the Karst Research Institute and thus the ZRC SAZU, as it strengthens its international reputation in the field of karst aquifer research, Ravbar emphasized.
