Tinkara Mazej, is a young researcher with an MSc in Geography from the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. She studied environmental and physical geography, as well as applied geoinformatics, and defended her master’s thesis on cone karst in Slovenia in 2024. In her thesis, she used geographic information systems (GIS) to analyse the spatial characteristics of karst.
During her studies, she worked on various projects at the Geodetic Institute of Slovenia and the Anton Melik Geographical Institute, ZRC SAZU, which involved GIS analysis and work in a physical geography laboratory. She also worked as a cartographer at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
In 2024, she started a PhD in Karstology at the University of Nova Gorica and became employed at the Karst Research Institute, ZRC SAZU. Her research focuses on the karst critical zone, particularly infiltration processes and the factors controlling water movement through the subsurface. A central part of her work is the study of drip water as an indicator of hydrological processes in karst systems.
